New to running? Our 12-week Beginners Couch to 5K course, led by UK Athletics Licensed Run Leader Simone Baggaley, will take you from your first steps to completing your first 5K. A supportive, group-based programme that builds fitness, confidence, and motivation โ one week at a time.


Our Couch to 5K
Have you ever thought about running but didnโt know where to start? Whether itโs building fitness, improving confidence, or simply getting outdoors with others, our Beginners Couch to 5K programme is the perfect way to begin.
This friendly, group-based course is led by UK Athletics Licensed Run Leader Simone Baggaley, and is designed specifically for complete beginners โ no running experience needed.
Over the course of 12 weeks, youโll go from your first gentle jogs to confidently completing your first 5K.
๐ What to Expect
Youโll be joining a welcoming group of people all starting their journey from the same place โ the beginning! Each week, youโll meet at a designated location (which may vary) for a guided session led by Simone.
Every session includes:
A structured warm-up to prepare your body safely
Walk/run intervals that gradually build endurance
Support and guidance on form, breathing, and pacing
Motivation and encouragement throughout the session
A short cool-down and recovery chat to finish
Between meetups, youโll receive simple guidance to follow at home to help you stay on track.
๐ The Goal
By the end of the 12 weeks, youโll be able to run 5 kilometres continuously โ something that once felt impossible will become your new normal.
Many participants go on to join local Parkruns, 5K events, or continue training with our next-level programmes, but Couch to 5K is about more than distance โ itโs about discovering what your body and mind can achieve with the right support.
๐ What Youโll Need
You donโt need fancy gear or expensive gadgets. Just bring:
Comfortable, weather-appropriate clothing
A supportive pair of trainers
A bottle of water
A positive attitude
Every run is done at your pace, and walking breaks are absolutely fine โ theyโre built into the programme.

Simone Baggaley is a UK Athletics Licensed Run Leader with experience supporting new runners as they build confidence and ability. Her approach is friendly, encouraging, and focused on helping beginners feel comfortable, capable, and proud of their progress.
Youโll never be left behind, and guidance is always available if you need to adapt around nerves, injuries, or life getting in the way.
